Spotlight Tour: Stormy Surrender by Nicole Andrews Moore Excerpt, Character Interview and Giveaway

SYNOPSIS:

Sometimes the life you planned isn’t the one you get to live. Sometimes the pain of the past overshadows the future. And sometimes to start over you have to go back to where it all began. That’s how it was for Joe Masters. That’s how he ended up back in New Hope. And that’s why he was in his thirties and had nothing to show for his life. He needed a complete overhaul, just like his father’s old house. Instead of a fast track, he had slowed down and was on a ten year plan. These days that was more his speed. And as much as he tried to fight the inevitable, he was learning to accept and surrender.

Martha had weathered her fair share of storms in Vermont, was accustomed to the cold, both the chill in the air and the cold shoulder in her marriage, but after the miscarriage she felt like she would never get warm again. So she did the research from the laptop while sitting in front of the fireplace. She knew what she needed when she Googled ‘hope,’ she just never imagined that it would bring her to New Hope, South Carolina. She never imagined that her husband would trick her into leaving and never follow. She never imagined that a southern storm with all its force and fury could be so destructive. But after the storm, the land is washed clean. It’s perfect for a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Nicki has lived in Charlotte, North Carolina with her children for the past eleven years and her husband for the past three years.  Her journey has barely begun and she loves every minute of it.  Every day of her life seems to bring new adventures, some bigger, better, shinier and prettier than others.  She's still getting used to that new life smell she's experiencing, a combination of hope, love, and happiness.  (The perfect scents to build a new life on...)

For fun, she spends time with those she cares about, cooks, reads, writes, and especially lives to travel.  The current travel goal: visit every Margaritaville.  Two down!  (Eleven to go?)

In addition to writing on Suddenly Single Journey, Nicki is a contributor for Project Underblog.  Her writing can also be found on Shine, where she is a Shine Parenting Guru and an award winning Yahoo! Contributor on YourWisdom as the relationship and dating expert.  And she has been published by McClatchy News in their syndicated papers.

EXCERPT:

Marti glanced at the hammer, then the tile, shrugged, and started swinging.  The tile made a lovely high pitched sound as it shattered.  The shards flew about the room, ricocheting off the walls and door before landing on the floor.  And because that first swing felt so good, she just kept swinging.  Each time the sledge hammer connected with the tiles, she would think of what her marriage had been like.  She would recall an incident, or a conversation, or any one of a thousand reasons that she should have dumped him, should have ended the marriage years ago.  It felt good.  Maybe even great.  And then she looked down and saw red.  Literally.  There were blood droplets all over.  Before she could even ponder why the room was looking like a crime scene, the wooden handle was ripped from her hands.

“What are you doing?”  He sounded incredulous.  And annoyed.

“You’re a contractor?  What does it look like I’m doing?”  She was upset that he had interrupted her impromptu therapy session.

Shaking his head, Joe grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the room.  “I know demo and that wasn’t it.”

She growled.  “I wasn’t done yet!”

“You, babe?  You are finished.”  She opened her mouth to argue, but he covered it.  With his mouth.

Shocked, she stood there with her eyes wide open.  His mouth was pressed against hers.  And it didn’t feel wrong at all.  Without thinking, she melted into him, wrapped an arm around his neck, and allowed her eyes to slowly flutter shut.  Joe bent slightly and scooped her up and held her against his muscular chest.  His lips pulled back, but his forehead was pressed against hers.  She opened her eyes to find him staring at her.

“Crazy woman,” he muttered to himself as he carried her out the back door of the house.  She couldn’t be certain, but it seems like she would have been carried farther if he hadn’t heard the sound of others talking in the front yard.

Slowly he lowered her to the ground and made sure she had her footing before releasing her.  She wanted to smile up at him, but she hadn’t decided what to make of that moment.  All she could do was look at him and murmur…”Why?”

“I needed to distract you,” he responded with a shrug.  And with that he turned and walked away.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW:

NAM: So, nice of you to stop by for an interview, ladies. I was really looking forward to talking to you since you know Marti and Joey.

Keely: That Marti is one sweet woman. It has been such a pleasure to watch her heal down here in the warmth of our community.

Laurel: You think it’s the weather? Please. It’s my cupcakes.

Keely: Well, if it was dessert that healed her…I serve mine with wine. I’m guessing that did more to soothe her soul than all the cupcakes you gave her combined.

NAM: Now, I know that Marti values your friendships…and desserts very much. Keely, you were there when Marti and Joey met. What was that like?

Keely: Fourth of July. There were sparks. Some look passed between them. They both looked…unnerved. And neither of them was ever the same again. The jury is still out as to whether or not that’s a good or bad thing.

Laurel: It’s not Marti. It’s Joe. He has a history of being this…womanizer. Only he’s so honest and up front about it that no one can ever be angry with him. And it’s like all these crazy women think that they can change him. Let me tell you…a tiger never changes its stripes. This I know.

NAM: You’re don’t think people can change? From what I’ve heard of their relationship, Joey is completely different with her.

Keely: Yeah. He’s different. He even seems to have a conscience.

Laurel: I don’t know about that. It could just be that he’s afraid of losing his meals.

NAM: His meal ticket?

Laurel: No, his meals. I withhold in the only way I can. It started with his hot sauce and extended to his desserts, and finally I just stopped serving him altogether. I can be very persuasive.

Keely: Laurel! You didn’t!

Laurel: I most certainly did. And I’d do it again if I have to. Knowing Joey, I’ll have to.

NAM: Apparently you two know how to keep men in line. Are you married?

Keely: Yes. My husband lives in Charlotte because of work. We see each other on weekends. And holidays. It’s perfect.

NAM: Laurel?

Laurel: Not yet. There’s this guy I’m kind of seeing. I love that he makes me laugh. Without laughter…

NAM: Will we get to see him?

Laurel: Yeah. I’m sure you will. He’s a keeper.

NAM: Good. I’m thrilled for you. What do you see in the future for Marti and Joey?

Laurel: I don’t know if they have a future.

NAM: Well, in order for that to happen, what would it take?

Keely: The patience of Job for Marti. A lot of changing for Joey.

NAM: Laurel, what do you think it would take.

Laurel: Time. And a sense of humor. I hope Joey has one, the big dumb flirt.

NAM: Well, we’ll know more soon. The next installment of the New Hope series, tentatively titled: Tempest Torn, will be out at the end of June. See you then!

I awake and slowly blink the sleep out of my eyes. The sun is fading, casting dark shadows in the room. I turn my head to see I’m alone in the bed. Lying on my stomach, staring non-seeing into the room, I remember how exquisitely fucked I was just a few hours ago.

The feel of his hard body over me and his cock moving in and out of me, the sweat dripping off him as we both came. I feel myself get turned on all over again, and he isn’t even here touching me. Then I remember his muted words spoken right before I fell asleep.

“I want you to know I would have waited another sixteen years to be able to feel that with you again.”

I’m finding it hard to believe that Jacob could rescue me from the prison I’ve put myself in over the years, living the life of someone other than whom I feel I should be. Even if that is my true wish, wishes don’t always come true.

The hotel room door opens and Jacob walks in carrying a couple bottles of water from a vending machine, setting them on a side table. He looks yummy as he walks to the bed with a wide smile on his face. Sitting next to me on the edge of the bed, he bends down and kisses my shoulder and down my naked spine, stopping where the sheet lies just above my ass.

“Hey, sleepyhead.” He murmurs in between those drugging kisses. My legs start to stir beneath the sheet and I’m tempted to take another ride before I have to leave.

“Hi. If you keep doing that, you’re not going to be able to stop me from having my wicked way with you again and I need to leave soon.” I sigh with frustration.

“Maybe that’s exactly what I want.” Running a finger up and down my spine, he stretches out next to me.

“I’m sure it is, but I have stuff to get done before I’m back on the road in a few days. I warned you I didn’t have much time but I would do my best to make this work.”

“It feels like I just got you back, and now you have to go away again. I’d much rather see your beautiful face, instead of dreaming of it. Will you have time to sneak away again before you fly out?”

“I’m not sure. We’ll have to play it by ear. I don’t know how much I have to give you, Jacob. And I’m not just talking about my time either. I’ve been going down this lonely path for a while now and I’m not sure where it’s left me. Regardless of what we did today, I am still a married woman with commitments and responsibilities.” I hate bringing up this fact, but I need the reminder out there that this isn’t a fairytale. Its real life, and its messy.

He leans over and thoroughly kisses me before murmuring, “I know. And I’ll take whatever I can get with you. It’s better than having none of you.”

With that parting blow, he kisses me one last time, grabs his keys and heads out.

“Text me later, baby. I’ll be waiting.”

I sure hope I know what I’m doing, because it feels as though things are going to get extremely complicated.

“I could stay here forever if you always looked at me just like that.” I don’t understand what he means, but I can’t take my eyes off him. “Everything.” His voice deepens while he looks into my eyes. “I like everything about you, Quince. I like the way those little wisps of hair frame your face. I love your eyes, so deep I get lost in them. Those lips I can’t resist. But I like you, Quince. The first time I saw you, I was drawn to you. I knew right then that you would turn my world upside down. Sometimes all you need is Patience.

Life’s been hard for Zeke. Being a punching bag for his alcoholic father has turned him into stone. Not even the dodgy trailer park he lives in can scare him. Fighting is his release and sex, drugs, and his guitar bring him peace, but deep down Zeke isn’t quite as hard as he makes himself out to be. When he meets Patience, she finds all his broken pieces and puts him back together, but she’s a ray of light in his shadowed life and the last thing he wants to do is bring her into his dark world. EXCERPT:

I turned away and flicked my blonde hair with the back of my fingers making sure it whipped him in the face.

He grabbed a fist full of it and gently tugged me against him. His warm body was pressed against my back. His strong heartbeat slammed into my shoulder reminding me how tall and big he was. His breath tickled my cheek as he pressed his lips to my ear. Goosebumps invaded every inch of my skin and I shivered. He felt my shiver and chuckled softly. It was deep and dark…sexy.

“Spit all the lies you want, Snowflake.” His hand snaked around me and under my shirt. My abdominal muscles clenched making my ribs ache as he ran his finger around my belly button. “Your body spoke my language the other night and it said differently. I’m not stupid; I see the way you look at me. It’s hot and I fucking love it. I bet you fantasize about me, too. One day you’re going to beg me for the things you fantasize about. If you’re a good little girl, I might give you some relief when that time comes. So, I suggest you play nice.” He planted a hot kiss on the side of my neck and then cold air rushed in against my back and replaced him.

Blog Tour: Forever My Lady by Jeff Rivera Excerpt

SYNOPSIS:

**Ages 18+ due to mature content and strong language.**

Rodriguez grew up on the streets and knew all too well the hard, cool feeling of the barrel of a gun tucked down the back of his jeans. But his hard exterior softened when he met Jennifer. Jennifer understands Dio like no one else and makes him want to be a better man. Suddenly a drive-by shooting lands Dio in a prison boot camp and sends Jennifer to the hospital. When Dio learns that Jennifer is pregnant, he realizes that he must find a way to turn his life around and return to his lady. But can trainee Rodriguez get his act together among the hardcases in prison? And will Jennifer be waiting for him if and when he does?

EXCERPT:

His mind was filled with questions and worries about Jennifer. He wondered if she had died on that hospital bed or, if she was alive, if she was in pain. If she was still alive, she probably wondered what had happened to him and probably wanted to know why he hadn't contacted her at all. Maybe she was just as worried about him. He wanted to be near her so badly. She was the only thing that kept him sane in that crazy gangsta life he led. If he could just get to a phone, just for five minutes. He just needed to hear her voice again. Just needed to know that his baby was all right. Every time he tried to go to sleep that night, everything that had happened would play in his mind over and over again. Dio remembered standing outside Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant that night on East Charleston, on the pay phone with the rain coming down in sheets. He had planned to go home real quickly before he spent that Valentine’s evening with Jennifer. It was supposed to be such a special night, but it turned out to be a horror instead.

EXCERPT:

Michael’s POV

Thinking about Lily being in my arms all aroused and wet was not a good idea while I was lying in bed. I decided on an early night, not just because of the pain in my head, which had started to ease up some, but because I figured if I was in bed, I was less likely to drag my bike out and go see Lily.

With the covers kicked off, I turned on my side to grab my cell. I wouldn’t visit Lily, but I could text her.

I located her number in my phone and typed my first text to her.

Me: How are you?

Two seconds later she replied.

Lily: Missing you. How you feeling?

Me: Headache nearly gone. Where are you?

Lily: In bed – naked ;-)

Cover Reveal and Teaser: Written in the Stars by Jennifer Martinez

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 30, 2013

You’ve got to kiss a few frogs before you find your Prince.

SYNOPSIS:

Believers of fate, destiny, whatever, say that there are many paths to your one final destination. No matter what choices you make you will always end up right where you are supposed to be. Well I guess I took the road less traveled because God knows I’m broken, bruised, and damaged. This is my story. It’s about all the wrong turns that led to the right destination. We were written in the stars from the very beginning and neither of us knew it. Love is something you can’t fight and can’t hide from no matter how bad you want to. This is my cosmic turn of love.

TEASER:

I moved my curly brown hair over my shoulder as he began slowly unzipping my dress, savoring every inch of the skin he had never seen. As my dress fell to my feet I was completely open for him to see. I turned back around and we began kissing again as I fumbled with the buttons on his white dress shirt. Once I had the final button undone I traced my fingers up his washboard abs over his chest and onto his shoulders where I finally lifted the shirt of his solid frame. When his shirt finally shared a space next to my dress, he lifted me up and onto the bed. With both of us now on the bed, things continued to get hotter. His kisses no longer stopped at my collarbone and every time my breath would catch he would wait a second then continue. I took the time he was leaning over my exposed body to take him in in all his splendor. I traced every inch of his skin with my fingertips making sure I memorized every muscle and every dip. I finally snuck my finger inside the waistband of his jeans and we took the next step.

Now honestly I can't tell you exactly what happened. I know that once I undid the button on his pants he stood up and let his jeans fall to the ground as he grabbed a condom from his bedside table and put it on. I can also tell you that he looked absolutely perfect with his red swollen lips, flushed face and perfect chest rising and falling with the excitement that hung in the air like a fog. When he climbed back on the bed he slowly removed my panties and then we were dancing. It was like the perfect waltz, slow and a little awkward at first while I learned the moves but once I was confident in my dance we were like Cinderella and Prince Charming at the ball. Dancing on clouds, perfectly content and in love. I didn't say it that night and looking back, if I had things may have gone very differently. Fate’s kind of a bitch like that.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

One day while slaving away at her monotonous day job, Jennifer Martinez found her true calling. Like a firefly in the night, the pages called to her. Once she caught the bug there was no stopping it. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

C.M. Stunich was raised under a cover of fog in the area known simply as Eureka, CA. A mysterious place, this strange, arboreal land nursed Caitlin's (yes, that's her name!) desire to write strange fiction novels about wicked monsters, magical trains, and Nemean Lions (Google it!). She currently enjoys drag queens, having too many cats, and tribal bellydance.

Always a fan of the indie scene and 'sticking it to the man,' Ms. Stunich decided to take the road less traveled and forgo the traditional publishing route. You can be assured though that she received several rejections as to ensure her proper place in the world of writers before taking up a friend's offer to start a publishing company. Sarian Royal was born, and Ms. Stunich's books slowly transformed from mere baking chocolate to full blown tortes with hand sculpted fondant flowers.

C.M. is a writer obsessed with delivering the very best and scours her mind on a regular basis to select the most unusual stories for the outside world.
